Beyond just a refreshed look, the 2027 Hyundai Tucson is undergoing significant changes. It boasts increased dimensions, a larger passenger compartment, and substantial powertrain upgrades. These changes suggest it's a relatively large leap forward rather than just a mid-cycle refresh.
With a length increase of 60 mm and a width increase of 40 mm, the 2027 Tucson has a more imposing body than the current generation. The wheelbase reaches 2,785 mm, an increase of 30 mm, thereby creating more space for the second row of seats. Headroom for rear passengers has also increased by 29 mm thanks to the higher and flatter roof design.
Hyundai also adjusted the rear door structure. The opening angle increased by about 10 degrees, making it easier to get in and out of the car, especially when loading small children or carrying large items.
As vehicles get larger, maneuverability in tight spaces becomes a problem that Hyundai needs to address with technology. This is why Memory Reverse Assist is one of the notable features on the new Tucson.
The system remembers the distance the vehicle has just traveled when entering a parking space. When the driver needs to leave the area, the Tucson can recreate the route in the opposite direction to assist in maneuvering the vehicle out. This technology is geared towards situations such as tight parking spaces, narrow access roads, or areas where the driver has limited space for continuous steering.
Besides the changes in size, the powertrain of the 2027 Hyundai Tucson has also been adjusted. In South Korea , the mild-hybrid version uses a 1.6L turbocharged gasoline engine producing 190 horsepower, an increase of about 13 horsepower compared to the current generation.
Notably, the 7-speed dual-clutch transmission has been replaced with an 8-speed automatic transmission. In the hybrid version, the 1.6L engine is retained, but the total system power has increased from 232 to 242 horsepower.
The power increase isn't very significant considering the increased body size. The new Tucson may be heavier, so its actual performance will need to be evaluated once it's officially commercialized.
Hyundai has not yet revealed the specifications for the plug-in hybrid version. Configurations for the US and Europe have also not been fully confirmed. In the US specifically, there is talk of replacing the 2.5L naturally aspirated engine with a 1.6L turbocharged engine, but no official information has been released.
The exterior of the 2027 Tucson is developed according to the "Art of Steel" design language, with more angular and robust lines. This design is believed to be influenced by the Hyundai Crater concept that appeared in late 2025.
The XRT version continues to serve as an off-road-styled variant. It's distinguished by its unique grille, wheel arch trim, and underbody protection plate, giving it a more rugged appearance compared to the standard version.
Inside the cabin, Hyundai has abandoned the familiar dual-screen setup. The new central screen is tablet-style and uses the Pleos infotainment operating system. Above the dashboard is a smaller digital screen for operating information.
Hyundai has also retained some traditional control layouts. The steering wheel has a more square design but still integrates physical buttons, while the area below the central screen has a separate set of buttons for the driver to quickly access certain functions.
The 2027 Hyundai Tucson is also equipped with a USB port with a power output of up to 100W and a system that detects accidental pedal presses at low speeds. Upon detecting a risk, the vehicle can reduce power transmission to minimize the likelihood of a collision.
The 360-degree camera system is enhanced with Ground View mode, allowing for observation of the area immediately surrounding and beneath the vehicle. This feature, combined with Memory Reverse Assist, forms a technology suite clearly focused on assisting the driver when maneuvering in tight spaces.
Hyundai plans to launch the 2027 Tucson globally at the Paris Motor Show in October 2026, before its appearance at the Los Angeles Auto Show a month later. Information regarding market configurations, including powertrains and PHEV variants, will be released as the official launch date approaches.
